Abstract:

Scientific research in several areas of knowledge has made use of the cinematic technique of time-lapse videos to better observe various nature’s phenomena. This technique consists of creating videos by capturing images with a lower frequency than when they are reproduced, creating the feeling where time seems to pass faster than normal. Nature events such as plant growth, tidal, rocks and glaciers movements, which take up to months to occur, can be seen in a few seconds. Swamps, deserts and even submerged sites are the places of difficult access and where normally these phenomena occur and need to be observed. Cameras configured in continuous shooting mode and / or coupled with special equipment that controls camera shooting are used for this purpose and are subject to the weather effects of these places. In addition, there is a high cost involved with these types of equipment, their maintenance and operation. In this work the TilBOT is presented, a robotic tool equipped with an on-board camera that meets the operational requirements associated with configuration, application and cost to obtain non-conventional data such as time-lapse photographs and videos and, in addition to possessing characteristics of the tools used today to obtain scientific data of this nature. Among these new features is the ability to use idle time in the process of capturing images for this type of media and the new implementations of tool mobility, with its various motors made for multiposition and camera operation. TilBOT performs the instructions contained in a photographic project that instructs her to move the camera, being able to capture images for the generation of multiple time-lapse videos from the same coordinate, using only one device, simplifying the process and reducing operational costs of obtaining data. Because of this, the is a tool that facilitates the construction of scientific and educational projects that make use of this type of unconventional data, in the case of images and time-lapse videos. TilBOT can also be used for capturing advanced digital photographic images for use in educational systems, so that photographic projects can be constructed with horizontal, vertical and enfused 360o panoramas and image emulation of the areas of biology, geography and astronomy.
